The power of story never fails to move me.
Last month, I had the privilege of facilitating a digital storytelling workshop with a group of graduating students – bright, passionate, and on the cusp of a new chapter. What began as a creative exercise quickly became a space for reflection, clarity, and purpose.
One participant, Kharyl, shared how the process of crafting her story helped her see her path more clearly. Through telling her story, she found affirmation and a deeper connection to her goal in life.
“This story captures the core of who I am and what drives me. While I’ve had many dreams growing up, the constant has always been in my desire to make my family proud and give back for everything they’ve done for me...It reminded me that my dreams are not just for me, but for the people I love. It gave me clarity and motivation to keep going, no matter the challenge. I enjoyed this workshop so much. I’m looking forward to another one.”
It’s moments like these that remind me why I do what I do. Storytelling isn’t just about content — it’s about connection. When young people find the courage to tell their stories, they also find direction, strength, and community.
To Kharyl and the rest of the young storytellers in that room: Congratulations on your graduation. Keep dreaming, leading, and telling your story — the world needs to hear it.

“I want to turn their sacrifices into smiles, their struggles into peace because in the end, success isn’t just about what I achieve. It is about who I uplift. And my heart will always choose them – my home, my why, my dream.” A digital story by Kharyl Maye T. Canizares.
