For my recent digital storytelling workshop with the nominees of the Search for Ten Outstanding Firefighters of the Philippines, some participants worked on their videos alone. Others worked with their teams. One worked on his story with his wife. And two or three had their children helping them.

Sir SFO2 Mark Anthony Ibale (one of the Top 20 Finalists) sent me these photos – his daughters helping him edit his digital story.
They weren’t just doing something technical. They were entering their father’s world. Listening to his story. Seeing the experiences behind the uniform. Learning more about him. I can only imagine that, in the process, they came to appreciate him, and maybe even love and admire him a little more.
That, for me, is one of the beautiful things about telling our stories. Sometimes, we think we are simply making a video. But we are actually giving the people we love a chance to know us more deeply.
