In 2019 I documented a number of legacy stories of Kock Seng who had Multiple System Atrophy – a chronic degeneration of the nerves which affects the whole body. He had his stories recorded so he can leave them behind for his family and friends when he’s gone.
In 2022 he passed away. At the memorial service held for him in Michigan (and also a few months later in Malaysia and on his first year death anniversary), some of the videos I’ve done with him were shown. That was the goal. To save his stories and share them especially when he’s physically gone. His memory lives on.
Joan, Kock Seng’s wife said, “The first reason I started thinking about having a video was I knew Kock Seng had a life-limiting illness, which would, in the future, cause him not to be able to talk and I wanted his story with his voice, with his thoughts to be shared with his family, his friends. And selfishly I wanted to hear his voice. I wanted something that would be a legacy for myself, possibly for my children, possibly for others down the road when he wasn’t here.”
I’m thankful for the privilege and honor of doing the job. Thanks again, KS and Joan!
